Trimming & Splitting

ScreenSage Pro uses the same three operations for one-time playhead edits and continuous timeline cutting:

  • Delete Left keeps the content after the cut and removes the content before it.
  • Split keeps both sides as separate clips.
  • Delete Right keeps the content before the cut and removes the content after it.

Quick Split at the Playhead

Move the red playhead to the exact cut position, then use one of the quick split actions. The default shortcuts are 1, 2, and 3:

Splits at the playhead and removes the content before it.

You can also open a slice button's context menu and choose Trim at Playhead. This is useful when you want to confirm the operation name before applying it.

Cut Directly on the Timeline

Click one of the three slice buttons in the timeline toolbar to activate that tool. The default tool shortcuts are Command-1, Command-2, and Command-3.

While a slice tool is active, click a position on a video clip to apply the selected operation there. Continue clicking to make several cuts without moving the playhead. Press V or choose the selection tool when you are finished.

Shortcuts Can Be Customized

Open Settings > Keyboard Shortcuts to change the three slice-tool shortcuts, the three quick playhead shortcuts, or the selection-tool shortcut. The toolbar help popover shows the shortcuts currently assigned on your Mac.

PRO TIP

Use the waveform with quick playhead actions when a cut must land on a spoken word or music beat. Use an active slice tool when you need to break a long recording into several working sections.
